And the project begins...

Since some of us are meeting Friday evening, I thought it would be a good idea to post what we're going to be working on before hand... After a thorough preliminary inspection with the help of Peter, we’ve determined that the overall principles of the submarine are sound. We’ve also determined that the, motor, powerplant, control surfaces, stick, and rudder pedals are all functioning normally. Unfortunately the ballast system is the only exception, however the mechanism looks simple enough to fix without great difficulty. The ballast system is controlled by two levers connecting to caps that open and close its respective cap. When the cap opens, water flows into the ballast tank which allows the sub to sink. When it is closed, the tank area is sealed allowing air to be added by the push buttons controlling onboard airtank. The pull cable that controls the aft ballast cap is stuck and is not operational. The forward cable is not connected and may also need to be replaced.

The first goal I have is to get all the systems that are in place fully functioning. After it looks like everything that’s in place is working, we will test the sub in a controlled environment (AKA Pool). This make sure the systems actually have the desired outcome when we are in the water with the smallest risk to the boat and people. From there, we will make the decision whether or not it’s worth our time to improve upon some of the systems or add anything extra. A lot of these additions probably depend on how the Sub functions in the water. Either way, there are lots of cosmetic fixes that we will save for last.

We also need a name for the sub!
